Well, the Nuxt team has already provided a Nuxt upgrade guide in order to show you how to get from version 3 to version 4. And honestly, there's not a ton of work to do. Why? Because one of the main goals of Nuxt version 4 is to quote, recalibrate what a major release looks like in the Nuxt ecosystem.
This is a quote from Daniel Rowe in a podcast that he did with Michael Thiessen and Alex Lichter. To give you a little bit more context, Daniel was talking about the feeling, the process that people go through when upgrading a major version of Nuxt. And this is his full statement at first, talking as if he were in the shoes of the developer making the upgrade. Oh, yeah.
This is cool. I'm looking forward to taking half the day to upgrade our project rather than, ugh, horrific. I'm going to have to take six months to have to rewrite the entire app. And then speaking for himself, I want to sort of recalibrate what a major release looks like in the Nuxt ecosystem.
So one of the main features of Nuxt version 4 is a peaceful major version upgrade. There is not a ton new, they want to focus on producing new juicy features in each minor version under experimental flags, and make the major version upgrade process more about a regularly scheduled upgrade for a few small breaking changes. So how can you get started with Nuxt for today? compatibility version in Nuxt config, setting it to four.
